Here are the supplies needed:
1 cup of Borax
1 cup of Arm and Hammer Super Washing Soda
1 bar of Fels-Naptha soap
That's it!
I first combine the Borax and washing soda.
Then begins the only tedious part of making the soap. I use the fine cheese grater to get the soap really broken down.
Every time that I do this Sammy sits and watches. She thinks that she is going to get some cheese. Poor doggy.
I put everything in the mixer and have it mix for a few minutes. This helps to both mix everything up and to further break down the grated up bar of soap.
Here's the finished product. I actually made a double batch. We put a tablespoon or two in each load. This should last for a couple of months and only costs a few dollars.
This isn't a goal, but it is a pretty easy project to save some money. From beginning to end it only takes about 15 minutes. Not bad at all.

Can't Sammy's dog sniffer tell the difference between cheese and soap?
Poor doggy! Another great thrifty idea, EP!
